Living in Colorado, it is advised to have a vehicle that is either a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive. This state offers a wide variety of challenging roads and weather conditions, with weather making the tough roads even more challenging. As a photographer that likes to shoot in remote locations, keeping in mind that I have 2 small children that often travel with me, I needed something safe, reliable, affordable and easy for them to get in and out of...not to mention carry all of our stuff!
When the need to get a new vehicle came, I began an extensive search that would fulfill those needs. In the end I chose the 2011 Subaru Impreza. Thus far, I have taken it all over Colorado, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. Wether I am stuffing it full of gear for a Kayaking trip at Lake Powell or asking it to climb narrow, icy roads outside of Steamboat, CO that specifically say I should have a "high clearance vehicle..." to continue, this vehicle, with it’s spectacular AWD system, has taken me there, getting good gas mileage all the way.
The last trip I took in it was to Southern Colorado. If you have not been there, you should go. There are great small towns with friendly folks and stunning scenery everywhere you look. The images below are from this last adventure in my faithful Subaru. Some of you may be asking yourself, why am I talking about my car? The answer is simple. I have been so impressed by how much stuff it can hold, and the roads that it has been able to take me up, that I felt I had to share it with the world. I have encountered people in lifted 4x4's on some of these more extreme roads and they look at me in astonishment. The look is priceless!
I bought this vehicle with priority number one being able to get my kids to school in the worst weather Colorado could toss at me. I figured I would do a lot more hiking and biking of the back-country, owning this vehicle, to get to the scenic locations I so love to visit. But no, my little Subi takes me just about anywhere I have ever wanted to go. I have never been more impressed by an unmodified vehicle. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures. I loved taking them.
