There is a quality about small towns that I really like. When you visit one, you get that nice, Mom and Pop shop, hand made, here everything is made the way it should be…my way, kind of feeling. Or so I thought!
So there I was, in the small town of Williston North Dakota, trying to order a hamburger…my favorite food EVER! When the waitress told me that I had to have it cooked medium! “Really? I prefer to have it cooked medium rare. You know, so it is a little pink in the middle.” I responded. She then told me “We can’t do that here. It’s against company policy.” I know, at this point I should have just left and gone somewhere else, but that somewhere else didn’t really exist, in Williston ND. You see, this is a SMALL town that is supported by oil and farming. So small that they don’t have many real restaurants at all. People eat at home. Most of what you will find there is fast food. It would appear that people in the oil business like fast food. I didn’t want fast food. I wanted better. What I got was worse. I will just say that their idea of medium and my idea of well done, seem to be one and the same. I ate the fries.
So much for comfy, cozy feeling I was expecting.
